Unlocking SA’s Potential

We believe that through developing knowledge, skills, capacity and emerging businesses in South Africa, we can unlock South Africa’s potential and create greater economic participation and independence.

We focus on uplifting individuals through a number of initiatives and programmes, including:

Enterprise and supplier development

Our Enterprise Development programme is called Sisekelo. Sisekelo can be loosely translated from Zulu as ‘foundation or pillar of support’ and the name couldn’t be more apt.

Sisekelo aims to stimulate the growth of SMEs, with the view to positively impact South Africa’s unemployment rate and economic development. On the microeconomic side, it is an opportunity for TIH to expand its distribution footprint and ultimately, contribute towards the advancement of entrepreneurship.

Sisekelo currently runs the following programmes:
  1. Broker development
  2. SME development
  3. Tow Truck Initiative
  4. Motor Body Repairer development

Skills development

We established our Motor Assessing Academy and our Claims Academy in 2014. Our Motor Assessing and Claims Academy has trained over 100 South Africans and 79 of these learners have been employed at TIH. Our learners are sourced through Harambee, a not-for-profit Youth Employment Accelerator that connects employers who are looking for talent to high-potential South African youth who are hungry for opportunity.

Youth Employment Services (YES) programme

Through the launch of the YES Job Creation Initiative, Telesure was able to create 265 job opportunities nationally including rural areas. At TIH, our YES candidates are acquiring skills within short-term insurance (including commercial and brokers), life insurance, IT, Human Resources, Marketing, hospitality, administration, health and safety and digital.

Consumer education

Our Truth About Money programme offers a financial education course, debt management and estate and wills services to all successful online applicants at no cost.

The programme strives to help South Africans take control of their finances and make informed decisions that can change their lives, one step at a time. It does this through a financial education course and additional services such as the provision of information through the blog and tools section.

Other Initiatives

Financial inclusion
TIH seeks to introduce ground-breaking, innovative products for SME's in previously uninsured markets.

Preferential procurement
Our preferential procurement policy promotes the upliftment of black owned QSE’s and EME’s. We see this as a positive move in providing access to markets to previously excluded entrepreneurs.

Management control
Diversity and inclusion is a key lens through which we review our talent pools and develop our succession plans, across all levels of the organisation.
